Junko Fukuhara

Junko is a registered counsellor with the Australian Counselling Association. She works with adults and couples to help them with mood-related issues, eating disorders, relationship issues, domestic violence/abuse and grief associated with crimes and scams. She draws from her lived experience to support her clients going through difficult times and can offer counselling in Japanese and English.

Junko has a wealth of knowledge regarding cultural issues as she grew up in Japan and immigrated to Australia. She is also knowledgeable about Arabic society and culture through her youth work. Junko seeks to help clients embrace their individual uniqueness and cultural diversity. She strives to keep learning to help her clients.

Areas of Focus:

  • Depressive disorders, including major depression and dysthymia

  • Relationship conflict, intimacy, infidelity, or separation

  • Trauma and grief, focusing on victims of scams (romance and/or investment) and domestic violence/abuse

  • Feeding and Eating disorders

Therapeutic approaches:

Junko focuses on engaging with her clients and, in consultation with our psychologists, she will develop a tailored treatment plan for each client, informed by evidence-based therapy models. She enjoys helping clients through the following models:

  • Person-Centered Therapy

  • Existential Psychotherapy


More about Junko:

Junko is a proud mother of her son and has loved spending her time focusing on his growth and development. She is obsessed with hot pilates (HIIT), hot yoga, and enjoys walks along her local neighbourhood's creek. When she is at home, enjoys watching Japanese TV dramas and anime. Junko also loves shopping and catching up with her friends for dinner and a drink!
